Nearly everywhere you go in Wadi Musa and many places in Petra have little bottles of different sizes and shapes containing colored sand that has been made into various works of art. Camels, scenery, and the like. There are a number of places where you can watch the artists making the sculptures right in front of your eyes. The quality of the art is much better than in Luxor, Cairo or anywhere in Egypt. What you may not realize, is that the colored sand they use is not artificially colored. It is actually taken from the sandstone in Petra. There are reds, purples, blues, yellows, golds, silvers, whites, greens, and every other color of sand you can think of. These colors are also found in places where the sandstone is so soft you can rub it loose with your bare hands. The bedouins harvest the various colored sands from the walls in Petra that are used to make the sand sculptures. If you have purchased one of these sand sculptures, you really do have a part of Petra. Try to visit www.AraMalls.com and choose the Sand Works category to see what we have.
